The Labour Party (LP) has slammed former Minister of Finance, Senator Nenadi Usman, over her alleged attempts to “auction” the party to her political allies, including ex-Kaduna Governor Nasiru el-Rufai.
In a fiery statement on Tuesday, LP’s National Publicity Secretary, Obiora Ifoh, accused Usman of engaging in “shameful but audacious” acts to undermine the party.
“Nenadi Usman is not a card-carrying member of the Labour Party. Her name is not in our register, and she is unknown at the Ward, Local Government, or State levels,” Ifoh stated. He further criticized her for attempting to assume an “illegal and ill-conceived” role as transitional chairman, despite losing court battles to sack the party’s executives.
The LP also dismissed Usman’s claim that she was invited by the Social Democratic Party (SDP) to witness el-Rufai’s defection. “Imagine a supposed party leader saying ‘they’ received el-Rufai into the opposition fold. This is a shallow defense and most unfortunate,” Ifoh said.
The party warned against any further attempts to transact with its platform, declaring, “The Labour Party is not a merchandise that can be bought over the counter.” Ifoh added, “If Nenadi Usman wants to join another party, she is free to do so, but transacting with the Labour Party is clearly criminal and must be resisted.”
The LP’s leadership urged Nigerians to remain vigilant against “desperate politicians” seeking to exploit the party for personal gain.
