The Presidency has issued a firm rebuttal, dismissing claims of a rift between President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima as nothing more than the product of overactive imaginations and deliberate mischief.
This was contained in a statement issued on Saturday by Stanley Nkwocha, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communications (Office of the Vice President), in which the administration described recent rumours, including an outlandish claim that the Vice President was barred from entering the Presidential Villa, as “the wildest expression of wishful thinking” by individuals with neither credible sources nor respect for the truth.
The statement noted that the latest in a series of fabricated stories was part of a calculated effort to undermine public confidence in the government, stressing that no such incident ever occurred. “These reports seek to mislead the public into believing there’s discord at the highest levels of government,” it read, adding that the relationship between the President and his deputy remains unshaken.
The Presidency also condemned what it termed a “media circus” orchestrated by purveyors of fake news, emphasising that Vice President Shettima remains fully committed to his duties and the administration’s shared vision for Nigeria. “He does not have the luxury of time for distractions, particularly those born of the imagination of individuals intent on creating smoke where there is no fire,” the statement declared.
The administration expressed appreciation for Nigerians who have remained steadfast in their support, urging the media and the public to disregard sensationalist claims and rely only on credible sources. “No amount of falsehood or manufactured tension can shake the foundation of that democratic mandate,” it asserted.
