The Administrator of Rivers State, Vice Admiral (Rtd) Ibok Ete Ekwe Ibas, has announced that a new 2025 appropriation bill is in the works, with a focus on critical sectors such as healthcare, education, agriculture, and infrastructure.
Speaking while hosting a delegation of the Rivers State National Assembly Caucus, led by Senator Barinada Mpigi, at Government House, Port Harcourt, on Thursday, Ibas emphasized that the budget would also drive employment creation and technological advancement in key areas of public service.
The delegation included Senators Allwell Onyesoh, Minority Leader of the House of Representatives Kingsley Chinda, and several House members: Dumnamene Dekor, Solomon Bob, Cyril Godwin Hart, Blessing Amadi, Felix Nwaeke, Kelechi Nwogu, and Victor Obuzor.
Vice Admiral (Rtd) Ibas reaffirmed his commitment to restoring law and order in Rivers State, stating that collaboration with security agencies has fostered a safer and more inclusive environment. He vowed to sustain efforts in making Rivers a model of peace and economic stability.
“In addition to our peace-building efforts, we are focused on economic stability and development. Following the Supreme Court verdict on the state’s budget, we have moved swiftly to draft a new budget that reflects our priorities in healthcare, education, social services, and infrastructure,” he stated.
Highlighting the urgency of the initiative, Ibas assured that the budget would be transparent and inclusive, ensuring that necessary investments to improve citizens’ lives are expedited. He added that job creation, agriculture, infrastructure, and technology remain top priorities.
The administrator urged Rivers legislators at the National Assembly to support his administration in securing legislative backing and resources needed to execute the budget effectively.
“Your partnership is critical to sustaining Rivers State’s progress and ensuring enduring peace for future generations,” Ibas stated, stressing that dialogue, community engagement, and reconciliation remain key strategies for fostering unity and trust among citizens.
Senator Mpigi, speaking on behalf of the delegation, commended Ibas for his achievements so far and pledged the lawmakers’ full support in advancing the state’s development agenda.
