Hon. Prince Odi Okojie Henry, the member representing Esan North-East/Esan South-East Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, has announced his withdrawal from the Edo Central Senatorial by-election race.
The seat was declared vacant by the Senate following the elevation of Senator Monday Okpebholo to the position of Executive Governor of Edo State.
In a statement released on Sunday, Okojie explained that his decision was driven by a deep sense of responsibility to his constituents and the need to avoid creating additional financial and logistical burdens for the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Okojie emphasisped that his initial aspiration to contest for the Senate was motivated by a sincere desire to serve the people of Edo Central and contribute to the development of the region.
However, after extensive consultations with his family, political associates, and well-wishers, he concluded that withdrawing from the race was the most prudent course of action.
“As the current member of the House of Representatives for Esan North-East/Esan South-East Federal Constituency, my first obligation is to my constituents,” Okojie stated. “Their trust in me is sacred, and I must remain fully focused on delivering the dividends of democracy to them without distraction.”
Okojie extended his gratitude to the APC for its support and trust in him. He also praised Governor Monday Okpebholo for his leadership and encouragement throughout the process.
“I wish to especially thank His Excellency, Governor Monday Okpebholo, for his exceptional leadership, encouragement, and brotherly role throughout this process,” Okojie said. “His commitment to the growth of Edo State is unmatched, and I will continue to support his administration to achieve even greater milestones for our people.”
