National Vice Chairman (South-South) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Dan Orbih, has called on the national leadership of the party to urgently adopt deliberate strategies to rebuild the party’s structure and credibility in Edo State.
Chief Orbih made the appeal while speaking at the official unveiling of the new state secretariat of the PDP, located along Airport Road in Benin City. He expressed deep disappointment over what he described as the total devastation of the party by the immediate past PDP-led administration in the state, under the leadership of former Governor Godwin Obaseki.
“The time has come for us to say never again,” Orbih declared. “We can no longer tolerate those characters who collaborated with Obaseki to kill our party. Obaseki destroyed everything that was good in Edo State. He killed our party. He told us to wait and see. What do we see today? Total destruction.”
The PDP chieftain, who also serves as Chairman of the Governing Council of the state-owned Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, lamented the current state of the party’s representation in Edo State, noting that the decline is unprecedented.
“A party that once had two Senators now has none. Out of nine seats in the House of Representatives, we have just one. And even the governorship, which we held, has now been taken over by the All Progressives Congress (APC). How do you want us to feel?” he queried.
Chief Orbih emphasized that without a sincere effort to reorganize and reconnect with grassroots supporters, the PDP risks becoming irrelevant in the political landscape of Edo State. He urged party stakeholders to put personal interests aside and work towards genuine reconciliation and restoration of public trust.
