The Executive Assistant on Community Development to the Delta State Governor, Mr. Omiregua Henry Eloho Ayanruoh, has said that Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC) is in the interest of Delta people.
Speaking on the subject, Ayanruoh argued that the governor is primarily concerned with the interests of the Delta people and is willing to take necessary steps—including cross-party engagement—to advance their development.
According to him, “A governor’s first loyalty is to the people—not to party lines. If aligning with federal power brokers and political structures offers Delta State greater access to development, federal presence, and stronger influence at the center, then it is a move that deserves thoughtful consideration—not baseless ridicule. If building bridges brings results, then let the bridges be built.”
He added that from the onset, Governor Oborevwori has shown a commitment to inclusion, continuity, and progress. “If he is now engaging with key federal players or exploring broader political alignments, it is likely a calculated effort to secure more for Delta,” Ayanruoh explained.
He argued that in today’s Nigeria, where the Federal Government holds the keys to major developmental resources, no state—however visionary—can afford to operate in isolation. “Governor Oborevwori may well be thinking ahead, positioning Delta for long-term national relevance and opportunity,” he said.
“Whether under PDP, APC, or any other platform, Delta’s growth must remain the central goal. Reducing every political move to self-interest is not only cynical—it’s intellectually lazy.”
He concluded that Governor Oborevwori’s alignment with federal interests is not a sign of political weakness, but rather a “reflection of strategic courage” aimed at delivering lasting development for Delta State.
