The Obidient Movement has dismissed media reports claiming that its principal, Peter Obi, the 2023 Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, has been offered a vice presidential slot under Alhaji Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in a purported coalition ahead of the 2027 elections.
In a statement signed by Nana Kazaure, Director of Strategic Communication and Media for the Obidient Movement, the group described the publication as “imaginary” but addressed it due to concerns over public misinformation.
“While frank and cordial engagements with our partners and stakeholders towards a coalition continue amicably, the Obidient Movement would like to state emphatically that there is no truth or basis to the reports whatsoever,” the statement read.
The Movement emphasised that Peter Obi remains focused on addressing Nigeria’s systemic challenges, including bad governance, poverty, and corruption, rather than “politics just for the sake of grabbing power.”
It also clarified that Obi remains a member of the Labour Party, adding that any future political decisions would be communicated directly by him.
The statement urged the media and the public to avoid sensationalism, calling for collective efforts toward nation-building during what it described as a “difficult time” for Nigeria.
Speculations about a potential alliance between Obi and Atiku have circulated since the 2023 elections, with both leaders occasionally meeting and critiquing the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). However, the Obidient Movement’s latest rebuttal signals a firm stance against premature coalition narratives.
