The Nigeria Police Force has disbursed more than N20 billion in insurance payments to families of officers who died in the line of duty, Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun announced today.
The latest tranche of N2.85 billion was presented to 1,235 beneficiaries at Force Headquarters in Abuja, bringing the total payout under the Group Life Assurance and Family Welfare Insurance schemes to N22.97 billion since the programme began.
“While no amount of money can replace a loved one, we remain committed to supporting the families our fallen heroes left behind,” IGP Egbetokun stated during the emotional ceremony attended by senior officers and insurance representatives.
The payments cover outstanding claims dating back to 2018, with the Force having now settled benefits for 8,311 families of deceased personnel. The IGP praised President Bola Tinubu’s administration for its support in clearing the backlog of claims.
Police authorities say the initiative demonstrates their commitment to officer welfare and vow to continue timely disbursements to prevent future delays in payments to bereaved families.
The event marked the tenth phase of the compensation programme, which has become a cornerstone of the Force’s efforts to honour officers who made the ultimate sacrifice while serving the nation.
