NEWARK, N.J. – Kevin Holland flipped the script Saturday at UFC 316 when he tapped Vicente Luque with a choke similar to the Brazilian’s signature maneuver.
Opening up the UFC 316 main card, a very talkative Holland (28-13 MMA, 15-10 UFC) defeated Vicente Luque with an anaconda choke (officially announced as a D’Arce choke) at 1:03 of Round 2.
The submission came early in the second round after a strong first-round effort put forth by Holland, as he stunned Luque (23-11-1 MMA, 16-7 UFC) with a big standing elbow that wobbled him. Holland swarmed, but Luque was able to evade, at least for a moment.
The fight was Holland’s third in 2024. He lost to Reinier de Ridder in January, but defeated Gunnar Nelson by unanimous decision in March.
With the loss, Luque moves to 1-2 in his most recent three. The defeat was only the third by submission in his career.
