The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has issued a statement refuting claims that it will resume the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) and the replacement of lost Permanent Voters’ Cards (PVCs) on May 27, 2025.
The Commission described the circulating report as “misleading” and urged the public to disregard it.
INEC made this known on Tuesday in a statement signed by Rotimi Oyekanmi, Chief Press Secretary to the Chairman of the commission, Prof Mahmoud Yakubu.
The commission clarified that it has not announced any resumption date for the CVR exercise. The statement emphasised that the Commission remains committed to keeping the public informed through its official channels and cautioned against the spread of unverified information.
“The attention of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has been drawn to a misleading report making the rounds, that we will resume the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) and replacement of lost Permanent Voters’ Cards (PVCs) on 27th May 2025.
“The report is untrue. The Commission has not announced any resumption date for the CVR. We appeal to the public to disregard the false narrative,” the statement read.
The CVR exercise, a critical component of Nigeria’s electoral process, allows eligible citizens to register to vote and update their voter information. It also provides an opportunity for individuals who have lost their PVCs to request replacements.
The exercise was last conducted ahead of the 2023 general elections, and its resumption is highly anticipated by many Nigerians, particularly first-time voters and those seeking to update their details.
