The Federal Government will relaunch the Renewed Hope National Home-Grown School Feeding Programme (RH-NHGSFP) on 29 May 2025, as part of events commemorating President Bola Tinubu’s second year in office.
Overseen by the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, the initiative aims to provide daily nutritious meals to 10 million pupils in Primary 1 to 3 across public schools, using locally sourced ingredients, a statement by Yusuf, Personal Assistant on Special Duties to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, said.
Key objectives include increasing school enrolment by 20%, improving academic performance by 15% by the end of 2025, and reducing child malnutrition while boosting retention rates. The programme also seeks to empower women, youth, and smallholder farmers through job creation and skills development.
Dr. Yusuf Sununu, Minister of State for Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, stated: “Our mission is to feed every public school pupil in Primary One to Three, nurturing their potential and building the nation’s future. This initiative is a major step toward fighting hunger, malnutrition, and low school enrolment across the country.”
Backed by a N100 billion allocation in the 2025 budget, the scheme introduces technological upgrades such as QR-coded supply chains and real-time tracking to enhance transparency. The government will collaborate with National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) to register beneficiaries, while nutritionists will monitor food quality and pupil health.
By prioritising locally sourced produce—particularly from women-led cooperatives—the programme aims to reduce rural poverty by 40%, aligning with President Tinubu’s broader agenda on human capital development and poverty alleviation.
