In a move to strengthen healthcare delivery in the Federal Capital Territory, the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, has approved the employment of 34 resident doctors.
The newly employed doctors are the first batch of the 60 medical residency trainees in eight faculties and specialties across FCTA hospitals.
This approval marks a significant milestone in medical recruitment, as it extends beyond employees of the Health Management Board, offering more opportunities for doctors and enhancing the quality of medical services in the FCT.
Senior Special Assistant to the FCT Minister on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka, disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday.
He stated that the initiative would bring in more competent medical professionals to improve healthcare delivery.
“Among the 34 employed doctors, five are in the psychiatry department, four in internal medicine, one in general surgery, one in anesthesiology, eight in family medicine, six in ophthalmology, and nine in obstetrics and gynecology,” Olayinka stated.
He further revealed that the FCTA Civil Service Commission will soon commence the recruitment process for the remaining 26 resident doctors, which will include one for psychiatry, four in internal medicine, eight in general surgery, five in anesthesiology, and eight in pediatrics.
“The employment drive aligns with the FCT administration’s commitment to improving the healthcare system by ensuring the availability of skilled medical professionals across various specialties,” the statement added.
