Nasir el-Rufai, former Kaduna State governor, has stated that Communications Minister Bosun Tijani would keep his cabinet position should their political coalition succeed in unseating President Bola Tinubu at the 2027 polls.
The remarks came during Wednesday’s opening of the second Arewa Tech Fest in Katsina, a three-day gathering of startups, investors and policy makers focused on boosting northern Nigeria’s digital economy.
El-Rufai, who convened the tech summit, revealed he’d nearly missed the event due to a late-night coalition meeting the previous evening.
Our strategy session ran until 8pm on Tuesday, he explained, which nearly prevented me from travelling with the organising team.
The former governor’s comments highlight growing opposition coordination while spotlighting his continued advocacy for northern technological development through initiatives like the annual tech festival.
“They (the organising team) had to come without me because yesterday (Tuesday) at 8pm there was a very important meeting of the coalition we’re putting together to ensure that President Tinubu goes back to Lagos,” he said.
“Though we will still keep Bosun Tijani, we will still keep the minister because he is doing good work.
“I had to attend that meeting at 8pm. The Katsina airport does not operate after 8pm, so I could not come until this morning.”
