The member representing Orhionmwon East in Edo State House of Assembly, Hon. Osamwonyi Atu has been elected the deputy speaker of the House.
His emergence followed the adoption of a motion moved to that effect by the majority leader of the house, Hon. Jonathan Aigbokhan, seconded by the minority leader, Hon. Charity Aiguobarueghian.
The election of the new deputy speaker received unanimous support of all members of the House.
The new deputy speaker thanked the house for the unanimous support and promised not to disappoint the trust reposed in him.
Meanwhile, the former deputy speaker, Hon. Mrs Maria Edeko had earlier resigned her position paving the way for the election of a new deputy speaker.
Hon. Mrs. Edeko who voluntarily resigned her position, said that she resigned because of the minority status of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in the Assembly.
She further stated that her resignation would allow for justice, fairness, and equity for all the constituencies .
She thanked the leaders and members of the PDP for finding her worthy to represent her constituency in the assembly.
Lawmakers in the House took turns to praise Mrs Edeko following the announcement of her resignation.
They appreciated her unwavering dedication, passion for public service, and the high level of integrity she consistently demonstrated throughout her tenure.
