The Peter Obi-led faction of the Labour Party is set to address a world press conference in Abuja Wednesday.
Source in the party confirmed to Spear News that factional National Chairman, Senator Nenadi Usman, will speak to journalists to counter what he described as misleading claims made by the Julius Abure-led National Working Committee (NWC) during a recent press briefing.
At that event, Abure presented a communiqué outlining the NWC’s resolutions.
Among other declarations, Abure stated that the NWC had passed a vote of confidence in his leadership, that a recent Supreme Court ruling affirmed his legitimacy as the party’s national chairman, and that the Labour Party would not enter into any coalition with other political parties. He also insisted that the Enugu convention remained valid and announced the formation of a disciplinary committee to investigate alleged anti-party activities by certain members—including Abia State Governor Alex Otti and others.
Though not explicitly named, the party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, is widely understood to be among those under scrutiny. Obi is seen as the driving force behind the faction opposing Abure’s leadership.
