The First Lady of Bauchi State, Aisha Bala Mohammed has pledged her commitment to improving maternal and child health as she presented 1,660 professional kits, comprising crocs and scrubs, to midwives in health facilities across the state.
The ceremony, which took place at the weekend at the Polio Emergency Operation Centre in Bauchi, was described as a landmark event in the state’s healthcare delivery efforts.
The first Lady explained that the kit which serves as protective gear are designed to shield healthcare workers from exposure bodily fluids and infection, were to protect children and mothers from communicable diseases during medical care
Hajia Aisha Bala Mohammed expressed deep appreciation for the unwavering dedication of midwives, whom she described as the backbone of the healthcare system.
She highlighted their critical role in ensuring safe deliveries, promoting healthy practices, and providing essential care to mothers and newborns, particularly at the grassroots level.
The distributed kits, she noted, were part of a larger donation of 10,000 professional kits allocated to the North-East region by the First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, were she commended Senator Tinubu for her generous support, which was earlier launched during a national event held in Taraba State.
According to Hajia Aisha, the kits will enhance safety and professionalism among healthcare providers as they attend to women and children, while using the commend the Bala Mohammed-led administration for prioritizing healthcare delivery in collaboration with the Al’muhibba Foundation.
She noted that under this partnership, numerous health facilities have been built, equipped, and provided with essential supplies such as MAMA kits, all aimed at reducing maternal and infant mortality rates in the state.
Hajia Aisha urged midwives to remain committed to their noble duties and continue to offer compassionate care and guidance to women and families. She applauded the efforts of the Ministry of Health, the State Primary Health Care Board, and development partners for their collective commitment to improving maternal and child health outcomes, expressing optimism that with sustained efforts, the state will witness significant improvements in healthcare indices.
In his remarks, the State Commissioner for Health and Social Welfare, Dr. Sani Mohammed Dambam, stated that the items would go a long way in protecting midwives from infections while performing childbirth-related duties.
He emphasized that the Senator Bala Mohammed-led administration has prioritized improved healthcare delivery in order to promote a healthier society and reduce maternal mortality and infant morbidity rates.
Also speaking, the Executive Chairman Bauchi State Primary Healthcare Development Board Dr. Rilwanu Mohammed, underscored the importance of the professional kits for midwives, who are the most vital personnel in family health matters.
He said the kits would enable midwives to better perform their roles in skilled birth delivery across the state, thereby helping to reduce maternal mortality and curb child morbidity.
