Governors elected on the platform of the the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) have declared President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the party’s sole candidate for the 2027 presidential election.
The endorsement took place during the APC National Summit held at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Thursday.
Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State, who chairs the Progressives Governors Forum, announced the collective decision, stating that the governors had unanimously agreed to back Tinubu for a second term. The motion for the adoption was formally proposed by Uzodimma and supported by Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani.
Following the motion, Governor Uzodimma called for a voice vote, which was met with resounding approval from the gathering.
Though Tinubu is still in the first half of his current term, speculation about his reelection bid has been a major topic in political circles. The early endorsement signals a push for continuity within the ruling party ahead of the next general elections.
