The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo State could suffer another setback, as the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Blessing Agbebaku, has reportedly finalised plans to defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC) tomorrow.
Agbebaku, who represents Owan East Constituency, is expected to be formally received into the APC at a ceremony in Benin City’s Urhokpota Hall. The event will be attended by senior party officials, including national officers, the acting State Chairman, Jarrett Tenebe, and members of the State Working Committe.
With his defection, the All Progressives Congress (APC) is poised to tighten its grip on the Edo State House of Assembly following the imminent defection. The move will swell the APC’s ranks to 16 members, effectively reducing the PDP’s representation to a mere eight seats and granting the ruling party the constitutional majority required to control the legislature’s leadership.
Spear News reports that the APC secured majority seats in the house in March this year after securing the defection of three PDP lawmakers and one member from the Labour Party (LP).
