Senate President Godswill Akpabio yesterday appointed Senator Benson Konbowei (Bayelsa Central) and member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), as Chairman of the Committee on the South-South Development Commission (SSDC).
Senator Asuquo Ekpeyong, representing Cross River South, was named Vice-Chairman of the committee.
Other members of the panel include Senators Onowakpo Joel (Delta South), Benson Agadaga (Bayelsa East), Neda Imasuen (Edo South), and Allwell Onyesoh (Rivers East).
Also appointed to the committee are Senators Samson Ekong (Akwa Ibom South), Samaila Kaila (Bauchi North), Mustapha Musa (Yobe East), Patrick Ndubueze (Imo North), Idiat Adebule (Lagos West), and Mustapha Saliu (Kwara Central).
The committee is tasked with overseeing legislative matters concerning the SSDC once it becomes operational.
Konbowei, a former Speaker of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly, previously served as Secretary to the State Government before his election to the Senate in 2023.
