The Abia State Government has urged landowners within the proposed site for the Abia Airport in Nsulu, Isiala Ngwa North Local Government Area, to participate fully in the ongoing documentation exercise.
This process is designed to record all properties and economic trees to ensure fair compensation for those affected by the project.
Pastor Caleb Ajagba, Chief of Staff to the Abia State Governor, made the appeal during a high-level meeting involving government officials and representatives from Nsulu community committees.
He highlighted the importance of the exercise in identifying rightful landowners and ensuring transparency in the compensation process. Ajagba also revealed that Governor Alex Otti, in a move to address community concerns, has approved a reduction in the airport’s land area from 1,325 hectares to 1,025 hectares.
Describing the airport initiative as a game-changer for the region’s economy, Ajagba called on committee members to work closely with the government to finalize the revised land allocation, engage stakeholders, and educate local communities about the project’s benefits and progress.
Prominent figures at the meeting, including Dr. Chibuzor Emeruwa, Chairman of the Abia Airport Technical Committee; Rt. Hon. Uzo Azubuike, Chairman of the MoU Drafting Committee; Rev. Israel Ukaoma, Chairman of the Community Relations Committee; and Prince Clinton Uba, Chairman of the Media/Publicity Affairs Committee, praised Governor Otti for his willingness to accommodate community requests. They reaffirmed their commitment to supporting the government in delivering the project efficiently.
The Abia Airport project is expected to drive significant economic growth and development in the region, with the government and community leaders collaborating to address concerns and ensure a seamless implementation.
