All Progressives Congress (APC) delegates in Lagos’s Onigbongbo Local Council Development Area have publicly reaffirmed their support for Honourable Moyosore Adebanjo’s chairmanship candidacy.
The made the declaration at a press briefing in Onigbongbo on Tuesday, where party executives dismissed what they called “manufactured protests” against Adebanjo’s emergence as the APC flagbearer.
Mrs Oluwakemi Jona, the council’s Woman Leader, spoke for the delegates, stating their position remained unchanged despite what she termed “media propaganda” attempting to sway opinion.
“The so-called protests against our primaries exist only in the imagination of those with sinister motives,” Jona asserted. “President Bola Tinubu, our leader and a true democrat, would never endorse such cheap theatrics aimed at destabilising our party.”
The Woman Leader acknowledged all aspirants’ qualifications but maintained the party machinery had coalesced around Adebanjo as their grassroots-preferred candidate. “Honourable Adebanjo represents the amiable, connected leadership Onigbongbo needs at this time,” she added.
Comrade Kenneth Agba, the council’s Youth Leader, echoed this sentiment, confirming unanimous executive backing for Adebanjo. “Our collective position hasn’t shifted – we’re pleased he answered the call to contest,” Agba stated. “His widespread popularity across Onigbongbo’s wards speaks volumes.”
The show of solidarity came just few days after prominent members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State urged the party leadership to take disciplinary action against Olufunke Rekiya, the chairperson of Onigbongbo LCDA Chairman, following what they described as derogatory remarks about the party’s primary election process.
Rikiya had after APC recently held local government primary elections in Lagos State on her Facebook account described the selection of Moyosore Adebanjo as the APC chairmanship candidate for Onigbongbo LCDA as a “kangaroo process” and a “dance of shame.”
But members of party rebuked her, describing her comments as anti party and democratic. By publicly closing ranks behind Adebanjo, Onigbongbo APC appears determined to present a united front ahead of the council polls.
