The Edo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has fired back at the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), dismissing recent allegations linking the party and Governor Monday Okpebholo to unauthorised billboard campaigns for the 2027 presidential election.
In a strongly worded statement issued on Monday by the APC State Publicity Secretary, Mr. Peter Uwadiae, the party described the claims as “baseless and laughable,” accusing the PDP of engaging in desperate propaganda to divert attention from its failures in Edo State.
Uwadiae clarified that neither Governor Okpebholo nor the Edo APC sanctioned any billboard campaigns concerning the 2027 elections. He stressed that the advisory from the Presidency, which cautioned political actors nationwide, did not specifically mention Senator Okpebholo or the APC in Edo.
“It is the height of political illiteracy and opportunism for the Edo PDP to hastily latch onto the Presidency’s general advisory to smear our party,” Uwadiae stated.
He further accused the PDP of being bereft of ideas and desperate to remain relevant amid what he described as chronic underperformance in governance. “The Edo PDP is clutching at straws, seeing shadows where none exist,” Uwadiae added. “This is the same PDP that has flooded the state with billboards and banners celebrating phantom achievements while Edo continues to decay under their watch.”
Reaffirming the APC’s commitment to good governance, Uwadiae said Governor Okpebholo remains focused on rescuing Edo State from what he termed “the stranglehold of the PDP’s maladministration.”
