Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has reaffirmed his administration’s unwavering commitment to the welfare of civil servants, assuring that everything within the government’s capacity will be done to ensure their well-being and happiness.
Governor Okpebholo made this known on Friday, April 11, 2025, when he received the leadership of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), Edo State Chapter, at the Government House in Benin City. The delegation, led by the Acting State Chairman, Comrade Bernard Egwekhide, was on a courtesy visit to congratulate the Governor on his recent victory at the Edo State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal, which upheld his election as duly elected Governor in the September 21, 2024 polls.
Speaking during the visit, Governor Okpebholo said, “Whatever we are doing that benefits Edo workers is not a favour but a responsibility. Edo people voted for us to work for them, and that is exactly what we are doing—ensuring that life is made better for all, including civil servants.”
He reiterated his administration’s pro-labour stance, emphasizing that workers’ welfare remains a top priority. “We are a worker-friendly government. We understand the importance of a motivated workforce to the development of our state,” he said.
The Governor also highlighted the importance of transparency and accountability in governance. According to him, “We embrace transparency in all our dealings to earn the trust of the people. We are not afraid of criticism—especially constructive criticism—as it keeps us accountable and spurs us to do more for the people of Edo State.”
Governor Okpebholo acknowledged the enabling environment created by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, saying, “The Renewed Hope Agenda of Mr. President has provided us with the platform to perform, and we are determined to make the most of it for the good of Edo people.”
In his remarks, Comrade Bernard Egwekhide congratulated the Governor on behalf of the NLC and expressed appreciation for the administration’s favourable disposition towards workers. He assured the Governor of the labour union’s support and urged him to sustain the current momentum in addressing workers’ welfare issues across the state.
