The Commissioner for Business Innovation and Technology, Mrs. Patience Fakai, has emphasized that Governor Uba Sani’s initiative to establish Kaduna State as the nation’s leading skills hub is a crucial strategy for addressing youth unemployment.
Mrs. Fakai announced that the Kaduna State Government is in the process of developing three state-of-the-art Vocational and Technology Skills Acquisition Cities, one located in each senatorial district. She highlighted that effectively confronting youth unemployment necessitates a comprehensive and collaborative approach.
Speaking at the recent Jobberman Career Fair, held over the weekend, Mrs. Fakai acknowledged that the issue of youth unemployment has persisted for some time. She stressed the need for critical thinking in formulating integrated employment strategies that not only focus on job creation but also facilitate youth transitions into respectable and sustainable employment.
The Commissioner noted that the Career Fair exemplifies a robust partnership among the government, private sector, and educational institutions, all aimed at empowering young individuals and fostering economic growth.
Reflecting on the inaugural Career Fair, which took place on November 23, 2023, she reported significant achievements, including the participation of 1,496 unemployed youths and 71 employers, resulting in over 300 job placements to date.
This year’s Jobberman Kaduna Career Fair, themed “Meet – Connect – Get Hired,” seeks to further tackle the challenges associated with youth unemployment, with Mrs. Fakai expressing optimism about its potential success.
She emphasized that the effectiveness of the initiative relies on the commitment of employers, career placement organizations, and training providers to uphold implementation strategies.
Mrs. Fakai reminded employers of their vital role in driving economic growth, noting that their investment in talent development not only benefits their organizations but also serves the broader community of Kaduna State.
For job seekers, the Commissioner described the Fair as a valuable opportunity to demonstrate their skills, creativity, and enthusiasm, encouraging them to engage, learn, and develop professionally.
“Each interaction here is a step toward unlocking your potential and securing your future. Your careers contribute not only to your personal advancement but also to the overall progress of our beloved state,” she asserted.
She concluded by commending Jobberman for organizing such an essential initiative that connects thousands of aspiring individuals with career opportunities and helps bridge the employment gap in Nigeria.
