Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has extended his congratulations to Monday Okpebholo, the Governor of Edo State, following his recent triumph at the election tribunal.
On Wednesday, the tribunal upheld Okpebholo’s victory in the September 2024 gubernatorial election, dismissing the petition filed by Asue Ighodalo, the candidate from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
In a statement issued on Wednesday and signed by Lere Olayinka, his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Wike characterized the ruling as a reaffirmation of the mandate entrusted to Okpebholo by the people of Edo.
He urged the governor to maintain his focus on governance and not to be sidetracked by those who seek to gain power through underhanded means.
Wike emphasized that the tribunal’s decision was in favor of the Edo populace and encouraged the governor to remain dedicated to public service.
Expressing confidence in Okpebholo’s leadership, Wike stated his belief that the governor will foster progress and development within the state. “I believe in him, and based on his initial actions, I am confident that his administration will have a positive impact on Edo State and its citizens,” he remarked.
It is noteworthy that Wike is affiliated with the PDP, while Okpebholo represents the All Progressives Congress (APC).
