Hon. Chidi Lloyd, former Leader of the Rivers State House of Assembly, has accused suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara of plunging the state into chaos since assuming office, describing Rivers as being “under siege.”
Speaking on AIT’s Focus Nigeria on Monday, Lloyd, a prominent PDP chieftain and former Emohua LGA chairman, claimed the political crisis stemmed from Fubara’s refusal to recognize the 27 state lawmakers loyal to FCT Minister Nyesom Wike.
“Since Fubara became governor, Rivers has effectively been in a state of emergency,” Lloyd declared. “President Tinubu merely formalized it by invoking Section 305 of the Constitution and appointing a sole administrator.”
Lloyd alleged that Fubara encouraged lawlessness, claiming the governor once boasted of leading “street urchins” into action. “Is that how a chief executive should behave?” he questioned.
He further mocked Fubara’s preparedness for governance, recalling the governor’s past admission that he was not ready for the role. “He said he should have been told 20 years earlier to learn how to be governor. We gave a learner driver a Mercedes, and this is the result,” Lloyd said, likening Fubara’s tenure to a disastrous test drive.
“For nearly two years, Rivers has known no peace—the only state in Nigeria in such turmoil,” he added.
The former lawmaker expressed relief at Tinubu’s intervention, hoping the sole administrator would restore order. Meanwhile, Fubara’s camp has yet to respond to the allegations.
