The National Council of Women Societies(NCWS) in Bauchi State has empowered 10 vulnerable women across the state with a startup token capital to alleviate the economic hardship.
This is part of its mandate which is to empower, and advocate for women issues.
The president of the NCWS, Jummai Liman Bellow, while presenting the gift to the beneficiaries, during the stakeholders meeting urged them to put the money to good use.
The meeting which was held at the Council’s Secretariat in Bauchi over the weekend, was collaborative stakeholders meeting involving women groups and local governments women development officers to chart a way forward and to brief them about the activities of NCWS as well as areas of collaboration.
“Basically, we are into collaboration, empowerment, advocacy. The essence of today’s gathering is to meet with relevant women groups. We realise that the NCWS in the state has been a little invisible and most of the Women Groups are aware of what NCWS stands for. They only view it as an ordinary women group like them”.
“We are able to give a token to 10 women across the state as part of our empowerment effort. NCWS is a non governmental organisation and we are not a profit making body, but from time to time we receive grant from the government and we felt that just like the first lady is doing, we want to emulate them. Instead of just doing a program and going away just like that, we will try to empower one or two women”.
The beneficiaries were full of gratitude to NCWS as some of them are not members of the NCWS but we’re considered.
This empowerment is in line with the Sustainable Development Goals 1 to 4 which is no Poverty, zero Hunger, Good Health and Well-being quality Education.
