Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, has suspended Ibrahim Rabi’u, a Senior Special Reporter (SSR) in the Ministry of Transportation, for making an “unauthorized and inflammatory” statement about Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso’s political future.
The aide, who speculated about Kwankwaso’s alleged defection, has been issued an official query as part of disciplinary action. The state government has since distanced itself from his remarks.
The suspension was announced in a statement by Sanusi Dawakin-Tofa, Director General of Media and Publicity, and communicated through the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Umar Ibrahim, on Saturday.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the government declared: “The government has distanced itself from the purported claim, describing the statement authored by the suspended aide as solely coming from the author for reasons best known to him.”
Yusuf’s office further emphasized that “any political appointee must get clearance before making public comments on issues that have to do with the position of the government on matters of public importance or of sensitive political decisions.”
Reiterating the administration’s zero-tolerance stance on unauthorized communications, the release stated this served as a firm warning to all political appointees.
It further read, “The government cautions all political appointees against unauthorized comments, especially outside their jurisdiction.”
The statement also clarified official channels for disseminating information, stressing that only Ibrahim Garba Wayya, Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, is authorized to speak on behalf of the Kano State Government, while Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa remains the sole spokesperson for the Governor.
The move comes amid growing sensitivity over political alignments and loyalty within Kano’s political landscape, particularly as speculations around high-profile defections continue to swirl.
Yusuf’s decisive action is widely seen as a move to safeguard political stability and reaffirm discipline within the ranks of government.
“This administration remains committed to ensuring that public communication reflects the values of integrity, accuracy, and collective responsibility,” the statement concluded.
The suspended aide is expected to respond to the query issued and may face further disciplinary action following investigation.
