The Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, Most Rev. Matthew Hassan Kukah, has lauded Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani for his pivotal role in maintaining stability across the state, describing Kaduna as critical to Nigeria’s cohesion.
Speaking during a courtesy visit to Sir Kashim Ibrahim House, the bishop—who also serves as Pro-Chancellor of the Federal University of Applied Sciences, Kachia—applauded the governor’s exceptional commitment in facilitating the institution’s establishment.
Kukah revealed that the university’s Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Barnabas Qurix, had been engaging with federal ministries to expedite processes ahead of its September academic session. He noted that while the institution builds on the legacy of the defunct NOK University, its growth hinges on state support for land allocation, access roads, security, and utility vehicles.
In response, Governor Sani acknowledged Kukah’s advisory role in both educational and broader governance matters, emphasising his administration’s inclusive approach: Peace prevails because we prioritise equitable development, rewarding loyalty isn’t our metric.
The governor confirmed plans to expand the university’s landholdings, assess road infrastructure through KADRA, and collaborate with military chiefs to bolster security. He also cited the Education Minister’s pledge of TETFund support, while promising to review the institution’s transport needs with his cabinet.
Sani attributed Kaduna’s two-year streak without ethno-religious strife to deliberate outreach across political and communal divides, asserting: My door remains open to all, because governance transcends partisanship.
