The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has released the personal particulars of candidates contesting the Anambra State governorship election, scheduled for Saturday, 8th November 2025.
In a press statement issued on Saturday by Sam Olumekun mni, National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, INEC confirmed that sixteen (16) political parties successfully uploaded their candidates’ nomination forms before the 6:00 pm deadline on Monday, 12th May 2025, when the submission portal closed automatically.
As required by Section 29(3) of the Electoral Act 2022, INEC has published the candidates’ Form EC9 submissions, including academic credentials and other supporting documents, at its state headquarters and across all 21 Local Government offices in Anambra State.
The commission has urged members of the public, particularly party aspirants who participated in primaries, to scrutinise the documents. Any aspirant with reasonable grounds to believe that a candidate provided false information may challenge the nomination in a Federal High Court, as stipulated under Section 29(5) of the Electoral Act 2022.
INEC will release the final list of candidates on 9th June 2025, in compliance with Section 32(1) of the Electoral Act 2022, which mandates publication at least 150 days before the election.
