A vigilante who allegedly shot and killed a 29-year-old student of Ogwashi-Uku Polytechnic, Peter Eyorowalebo, in his residence while he was studying for an examination has been arrested by the Delta State Police Command.
According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Bright Edafe, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Ogwashi-Uku received a distress call and immediately led a team to the scene, where they found the victim lying in a pool of blood.
The victim was rushed to the hospital but was confirmed dead by medical personnel on duty. His body has since been deposited at the mortuary for autopsy.
Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, who expressed deep sadness over the incident, ordered the immediate arrest of the suspect, Ike Peter.
Edafe said he was promptly taken into custody and has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation.
The CP Abaniwonda has also directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the SCID to personally oversee the case to ensure a thorough and unbiased investigation.
While commiserating with the bereaved family and the Polytechnic community, CP Abaniwonda called for calm and urged the public to refrain from taking the law into their own hands.
“No stone will be left unturned. We are committed to uncovering the truth and ensuring that justice prevails,” he stated.
The police command reiterated its zero tolerance for unlawful killings and assured residents of its continued commitment to the protection of lives and property in Delta State.
