In a political climate where empty promises appear to be the norm, Governor Monday Okpebholo is fast changing the narrative with practical actions that sound louder than words.
His recent action regarding Edo State’s Government Workers stands out as genuinely impactful. He is not simply talking about the value of his workforce; he is demonstrating it through concrete actions aimed at improving the quality of their lives.
The most recent move, the Workers Day N75,000 minimum wage declaration, is a major turning point in the lives of Edo Workers. Amidst Nigeria’s rising living costs, this significant pay raise offers vital support to countless Edo families. It shows that the governor does not only understand their daily struggles but aims to provide them with greater financial security and dignity.
Okpebholo’s commitment goes beyond this pay increase. He has tackled long-standing issues within the civil service. The decision to make numerous casual workers, including over a thousand cleaners and permanent staff, is a significant step. These previously overlooked, neglected, and exploited Edo Workers can now heave a sigh of relief, as their job security is now guaranteed and are given due recognition for their essential contributions to the growth of the state.
The recruitment of 500 new teachers and the ongoing recruitment and regularization of thousands of casual teachers into the core state service demonstrates a focus on strengthening crucial public services. By filling education gaps, Okpebholo is both investing in Edo’s future and providing career opportunities for Edo people. Hiring more healthcare staff and regularizing contracts will improve healthcare quality statewide.
Importantly, the administration is correcting past injustices. Clearing unpaid wages of Edo State Polytechnic staff and ensuring the proper appointment of judges shows a dedication to fairness. These actions rebuild trust and improve the workplace.
The retirees are also captured in the ongoing reforms by Governor Monday Okpebholo’s administration. With the approval of health insurance coverage, the health of the older citizens is given a priority. This acknowledges their years of service and ensures their well-being after retirement is catered for – sending a message that their contributions are valued long-term.
Okpebholo’s approach highlights his understanding that a strong civil service is vital for any state to thrive and compete favorable in the committee of states . By addressing immediate financial needs and systemic structure, he’s creating a sense of value, security, and opportunity for Edo’s public servants. These are not just isolated gestures; they represent a comprehensive plan to empower the workforce and build a better future for Edo State.
