A young man narrowly escaped death earlier today after he was apprehended for allegedly stealing in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital.
The incident occurred along Abak Road Flyover, directly in front of the Church of Christ, where an angry mob had gathered and was preparing to set the suspect ablaze.

According to eyewitnesses, the unidentified young man was caught stealing, prompting immediate outrage from bystanders. In a matter of minutes, the crowd swelled as people shouted for swift and brutal punishment. The suspect was reportedly beaten severely, and tyres were placed around him in preparation for lynching.
However, just before the mob could carry out the act of jungle justice, officers of the State Police Command arrived at the scene. And in a swift move they intervened, dispersed the crowd and took the suspect into custody.
The incident comes as Akwa-Ibom state Police Command warn against jungle justice, urging citizens to report crimes to law enforcement rather than taking matters into their own hands.
