Former Special Assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari on Public Prosecution, Chief Okoi Obono-Obla, has urged the All Progressives Congress (APC) to purge its ranks of disloyal members, stressing that “pretenders” exploiting the party’s platform should be exposed.
The APC chieftain gave the advice during an exclusive interview with Spear News on Friday, revealing credible intelligence that some members of the APC were covertly working with opposition-led groups to undermine the party.
While he acknowledged that party members have a constitutional right to leave and join other parties, he insisted that members who no longer align with APC’s ideals or lack confidence in the government should exit voluntarily, rather than serving as agents or spies for oppositions.
“I have gotten the hint. We have a lot of our members who were partisan. Who were our foot soldiers, particularly on social media, some even served in the previous administration. I have seen some of them romancing with people plotting a coalition”.
“I will call the party to carry out a surgical purging, so that we know who is who. I think the strategy of the so called coalition is to infiltrate the APC, using our ranks to cause division or to use our members who have been compromised to sabotage the APC”, he disclosed.
“The party should ensure that there is membership renewal so that we know who is who is. Those who don’t believe in the ideals of the party or this government should leave the party and go. They shouldn’t be allowed to stay pretending to be members and allow the opposition to use them to sabotage us”, Obono-Obla advised.
