The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has summoned an urgent meeting of its National Working Committee (NWC) in a bid to stem the tide of high profile defections threatening to destabilise the opposition party ahead of 2027.
The emergency session, scheduled for Tuesday, comes amid what Nigerians have described as a political hurricane triggered by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC)’s aggressive poaching of PDP members. Party leaders are expected to discuss countermeasures to halt the exodus, which has seen several prominent figures abandon the PDP in recent weeks.
In a notable development, Senator Samuel Anyanwu – whose position as National Secretary was recently upheld by the Supreme Court – has confirmed his attendance despite reported tensions with the PDP Governors’ Forum led by Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed.
