The Assemblies of God Church in Okpu 2, Aba, has reportedly called off a wedding ceremony after the bride-to-be refused to spend the night before the wedding at the church parsonage, as required by the church’s marriage policy.
The church’s long-standing rule mandates that every bride must sleep in the parsonage the night before her wedding, where she is subjected to a blood pregnancy test just hours before walking down the aisle. The Church sees the practice as measure to ensure “moral purity” that aligns with their doctrines.
But in this case, the bride drew the line. Eyewitnesses say tensions flared when the woman, whose identity remains undisclosed, vehemently rejected the overnight stay, calling it an invasion of privacy. Despite frantic pleas from church officials, she stood her ground, leading to an 11th-hour cancellation of the ceremony.
Guests who had already gathered in their finery were left stunned and confused as church leaders announced the ceremony would not proceed.
