Prominent Ijaw leader, Chief Government Ekpemupolo, popularly known as Tompolo, has declared that President Bola Tinubu deserves a second term in office, stating that he has what it takes to move the country to a higher level.
Tompolo also expressed confidence that Siminalayi Fubara, the democratically elected Governor of Rivers State, would soon return fully to office.
Speaking on ARISE TV, Tompolo said he plans to tour all the Northern states to appeal to the people to support President Tinubu for a second term, just as former President Muhammadu Buhari enjoyed.
“We will do our part — even go out of our boundaries to the Northern part of Nigeria — to talk to our brothers so that he (Tinubu) will get a second term. Tinubu is a good person. He has the experience to do everything needed to carry the country to a higher level,” Tompolo said.
He added that his mission would be to ensure peace and unity during the political process, emphasizing, “We don’t want anybody to cause problems. Tinubu will have his eight years. There is no need to say we have a monopoly of power. No.”
“We will appeal to everybody, and by the grace of God, everyone will support us. Like the traditional rulers and everybody, both young and old, we have endorsed Mr President for a second term,” he said.
Speaking on the political crisis in Rivers State, Tompolo likened the disagreement between former Governor Nyesom Wike and Governor Fubara to a fallout between a leader and his protégé.
“You know, I may likely have a problem with my brother, who you can refer to as my boy. The problem between Wike and Fubara is that of Oga and boy. Our President is someone who has been promoting democracy, so there is no way he will truncate it,” he said.
He assured that efforts were ongoing to resolve the situation amicably, adding, “We are all doing everything — including Mr President and Wike — and Fubara is coming back as the duly elected Governor of Rivers State.”
