The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Delta State, led by Governor Sheriff Oborevwori have announced their defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC), citing a fundamental shift in the state’s political dynamics.
The decision was disclosed on Wednesday by the Delta State Commissioner for Information, Charles Aniagwu, who likened the development to the changing taste of palm wine, necessitating an adjustment in drinking patterns.
Flanked by Senator Manager, a five-term senator and pioneer PDP chairman in the state, in a viral video, the commissioner emphasised that the move was imperative to sustain unity, development, and security in Delta.
“For quite some time, the media, particularly social media, has been awash with speculations about our political direction,” the commissioner stated. “After extensive consultations with Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and other party leaders, we concluded that the political temperature has changed. Just as the taste of palm wine dictates how it is consumed, the current state of the PDP no longer aligns with the aspirations of our people.”
He explained that stakeholders unanimously resolved to join the APC to foster stronger collaboration with political allies and ensure uninterrupted development in the state. “This decision was not taken lightly. It was reached to cement the bond of love, advance the welfare of Deltans, and safeguard our collective progress,” he added.
Senator Manager, regarded as a political father in Delta, endorsed the move, describing it as a necessary step in the state’s evolving political journey. A formal declaration is expected next Monday, signalling the full integration of the defectors into the APC.
