The Police Command in Bauchi State has confirmed the death of four workers of the Gubi Water Treatment Plant in Bauchi State.
This was contained a statement made available to journalists by the Command’s PPRO, CSP Ahned Wakil.
The victims lost their lives when they were carrying out routine sludge cleaning operations. During the procedure, the staff members entered the clarifier to dislodge pit pipes but were tragically overcome by current of the water and subsequently drowned.
Despite immediate medical interventions, they were pronounced dead at Specialist Hospital Bauchi.
The Police gave the names of the deceased, among whom were a father and his son, as: Shayibu Hamza (48), Abdulmalik Yahya (29), Jamilu Inusa (29) and Ibrahim Musa (42).
While commiserating with the families, management and staff of the Bauchi State Urban Water Cooperation, the statement called for the urgent need for reinforcing workplace safety practices and strict adherence to established protocols.
