Etsako West Local Government Council, Edo State has officially banned motorcycle (Okada) movement within its jurisdiction during nighttime hours, citing rising security concerns. The restriction, which took effect today, applies from 8:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. daily.
Mr Zikanene Momodu Oyakhamoh, Secretary of the Council, who announced the ban urged residents to comply fully with the directive to support ongoing security efforts across the locality.
“The restriction is aimed at enhancing security and reducing potential security threats within the area,” the statement read. It emphasized the need for collaboration with security agencies in enforcing the directive.
The affected areas include the entire Etsako West Local Government, with enforcement expected in Auchi and surrounding communities such as Jattu, Iyamho, Agbede, and South Ibie.
Security agencies, including the Nigerian Police Force, Department of State Services (DSS), and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), have been duly informed and tasked with ensuring strict compliance. Divisional Police Officers across all major towns in the area have also been notified.
Members of the public with queries or concerns are encouraged to contact the Etsako West Council secretariat or approach the nearest security agency for clarification.
The Council reiterated its commitment to the safety of lives and property, urging residents to remain vigilant and law-abiding.
