Fireboy, the acclaimed singer, recently shared the intriguing story of how he was signed by Olamide to his record label through a simple text message.
Currently, Fireboy is a part of YBNL Nation, the label owned by Olamide. In a recent interview on the show “90s Baby,” Fireboy described his experience with Olamide as “the most interesting thing” that has ever happened to him.
Reflecting on his journey, Fireboy recounted a moment of uncertainty regarding his living situation when he received a call informing him that Olamide wished to speak with him.
Initially skeptical, Fireboy reached out to Olamide via text, leading to his signing through a WhatsApp message. He noted that shortly after he confirmed his acceptance, Olamide announced the signing on social media, which made it seem as if the announcement had been pre-prepared, awaiting his agreement.
“I vividly remember that day in the studio with Brainy and Oxlade, expressing my concerns about needing a new place to live as my friend, who I was staying with, was planning to move out,” Fireboy recounted.
“On that very day, I received a call saying Olamide wanted to talk to me, and I was given a number to text. At first, I thought it might be an April Fool’s joke, but I sent the message anyway. Olamide asked if I was signed and if I was interested in joining YBNL. I still had my doubts about whether it was truly him.”
Fireboy recalled, “It was conducted over WhatsApp. Looking back, I believe he already had the signing documents prepared and was simply waiting for my response. As soon as I agreed, I received a Twitter notification announcing Olamide’s welcome to Fireboy at YBNL, and I thought, ‘Is this really how artists get signed these days?’”
He went on to express admiration for Olamide’s decisive nature, stating, “When he feels inspired to take action, he does it. That was the essence of the moment, and my phone quickly filled with notifications.”
Fireboy also shared that his debut album, “Laughter, Tears, and Goosebumps,” was written and produced in just five days, thanks to Olamide’s spontaneous approach.
“Olamide initiated a WhatsApp group to start planning the album,” he recalled. “He is incredibly spontaneous; after I had released just two singles, he texted me to ask if I was ready to work on the album. We completed it in five days, and I felt quite anxious about it.”
Reflecting on the night of the album’s release, Fireboy admitted, “I was so nervous—it was the most anxious I had ever been.”
Looking ahead to 2024, Fireboy expressed his gratitude towards Olamide for being a “blessing” and a fundamental guiding force in his career.
