His Royal Majesty, Omo N’Oba N’Edo, Uku Akpolokpolo Oba Ewuare II, the 40th Oba of Benin, has extended an invitation to global investors to explore new economic opportunities in his kingdom, particularly in real estate, solar energy, and agriculture.
During the meeting at Palm Jumeirah, Dubai, this weekend which was facilitated by the UK-based Foreign Investment Network (FIN), the Benin monarch unveiled plans to open up 1,000 hectares of land specifically reserved for real estate development.
He urged investors not only to consider property development but also support the growth of the solar energy sector and invest in agricultural ventures in Benin.
“You will do well to invest in real estate, support the growth of the solar energy industry, and engage in agricultural ventures,” the Oba told investors, emphasizing the vast potential of these sectors to drive sustainable economic growth in Edo State.
Oba Ewuare II, crowned on October 20, 2016, brings a distinguished diplomatic pedigree to his reign, having previously served as Nigeria’s Ambassador to Angola, Sweden, and Italy.
His leadership has been marked by proactive engagement with both government entities and international organisations to foster development in Edo State.
Among his notable achievements, the Oba has championed the global campaign for the repatriation of the Benin Bronzes, looted during the British expedition of 1897, with several artefacts already successfully returned to the Benin Kingdom.
He has also taken a firm stand against human trafficking, famously invoking traditional authority in 2018 by placing a curse on juju priests complicit in the heinous trade.
Furthermore, his role in promoting peaceful governance was particularly evident during the 2020 Edo State governorship election, when he appealed to political players to maintain peace, earning widespread commendation.
