The Palace of the Ojuromi of Uromi has condemned the recent tragic killing of 16 travelers in the community, who were reportedly hunters.
“The Palace of His Royal Majesty, the Ojuromi of Uromi, strongly condemns the tragic and unfortunate killing of travelers within his domain,” the palace said in a statement, describing the incident as an act of jungle justice.
The traditional ruler, His Royal Highness Anselm Eidenojie, confirmed that he authorized the statement with the Palace Secretary, Gregory Omonikhobhio, also affirming the approval.
According to Gregory Omonikhobhio, “The palace approved the press release after a meeting of the council, and the head of the council is the king.”
“The Ojuromi of Uromi deeply regrets this act of jungle justice and extends his heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims, the people of Kano, and all affected communities,” the statement added.
The palace also sympathized with local residents who have endured repeated attacks by criminal elements. “His Majesty also expresses sympathy for his own people, who have suffered at the hands of criminals,” the statement said.
Highlighting the underlying concerns, the palace noted: “It is important to recognize the root causes of this distressing event. Uromi is no longer just a town—it is a growing city and one of the fastest-developing communities in southern Nigeria.”
The statement further expressed alarm over the lack of prompt security response: “The fact that such a barbaric incident unfolded over several hours without any visible police intervention is deeply troubling.”
The palace, therefore, made an urgent appeal to the Federal Government to approve and formally take over the community-initiated Mopol Barracks. “We strongly emphasize that justice must be served for the recent killings,” the statement stressed.
“His Royal Majesty once again calls on all relevant authorities to take immediate action. Security is a fundamental right of every citizen, and Uromi must not be left behind in the quest for peace, safety, and development,” the palace concluded.
