The Niger Delta Sports Festival (NDSF) has become a magnet for talent scouts. Sponsored by the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), the festival is uncovering young stars across multiple sports.
Over 20 coaches, retired athletes, and professional scouts are in action. They are hunting for the next big names in football, table tennis, wrestling, and athletics.
Francis Sule, a former Nigeria table tennis captain, is thrilled. “I’m seeing future champions here,” he said. “The Niger Delta is full of talent. I can already spot players who will replace Funke Oshinaike, Aruna Quadri, and Bose Kaffo.”
Sule, now a grassroots coach, serves on the festival’s Scouting and Mentorship Committee. He confirmed that several young athletes have been selected for further development.
“I’ve picked boys and girls who meet our criteria,” he added. “They are ready for the next level.”
Football scouts are also busy. FIFA-licensed scout Paul Omamomo described the search as tough but exciting. “The talent here is unbelievable,” he said. “Myself, Victor Ikpeba, and other scouts have found players who could become the next Okocha, Amokachi, or Oliseh.”
Olympian Gabriel Opuana is focused on athletics. He told social media influencer Chief Suo that he had spotted a promising shot-put thrower.
“There’s a girl with great potential,” Opuana revealed. “I’ll speak to her after her event. For now, I don’t want to distract her.”
