Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has credited her husband’s encouragement for giving her the strength to attend the ARISE Women of Impact Gala, where she was honoured with the Bold Voice of Good Governance Award yesterday.
Speaking at the event, Akpoti-Uduaghan revealed that she had initially considered staying away but was urged by her husband to stand firm.
“This morning, I almost didn’t feel like attending this event. But my husband had to speak to me,” she said. “Courage, he said. Natasha, it doesn’t matter what the media has narrated of you. That doesn’t define you.”
She described the warm reception from the audience as a reaffirmation of her journey, adding that courage is essential in the fight for good governance.
“Walking up here, the cheers I heard from you all just reaffirmed the journey that in truth, one must find courage even to speak the most difficult of things. And today, I’m being honored amongst many women to receive the award of the Bold Voice of Good Governance. (0:39) And I say this, it takes a whole lot of courage to reform governance.
The ARISE Women of Impact Gala celebrates women making significant contributions to society, with Akpoti-Uduaghan recognised for her advocacy in governance and national development.
