President Bola Tinubu on Sunday, revealed a candid conversation with FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, when he led a delegation of FCT Muslim leaders and other dignitaries to celebrating his 73rd birthday and Eid celebration.
Tinubu, while praising Wike as one of the best you can always rely on, recounted how the minister had requested the FCT’s exemption from the Treasury Single Account (TSA) to enhance project delivery.
The president humorously questioned whether the move would benefit his party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), in elections, given Wike’s affiliation with the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
“I remember the day Nyesom Wike came to me and said, ‘Please take us out of this problem of TSA so that I can do more work,'” Tinubu disclosed. “I said okay, show me what you want to do. He presented himself, and I threw in my own political jibe.”
The President then revealed his pointed question to Wike: “I threw in my own political jibe,” Tinubu said. “I asked, ‘Will this give my party an advantage in the FCT? If it favours you too much, you will lose your job.’’
Wike laughed and replied, ‘Okay, we will settle that Oga.’”
The exchange drew laughter from the assembled guests, showcasing the President’s characteristic blend of political shrewdness and humour.
