The Arewa Youth Consultative Forum (AYCF) has condemned the mob killing of 16 Nigerians in Udomi Efandion near Uromi, in Esan Northeast local government area, Edo State.
In a statement, AYCF President General, Yerima Shetima, described the incident as a horrifying act of injustice.
“These victims, mostly Hausa hunters, were traveling from Port Harcourt to Kano for Sallah celebrations when they were wrongly accused and attacked,” the statement read. “Around 1:30 p.m., they were intercepted by the Edo State Security Corps and local vigilantes before being handed over to a violent mob.”
The mob, fueled by false accusations of kidnapping, killed the travelers and set their vehicle on fire. Some victims were reportedly thrown into the flames in a brutal act of mob justice.
The AYCF denounced the killings and called for an urgent investigation. “We demand swift action against those responsible. Justice must be served to restore faith in the legal system,” the group stated.
While acknowledging the anger within the Hausa community, AYCF urged restraint. “We ask our people to remain calm and seek justice through lawful means.”
The group extended condolences to the victims’ families and vowed to push for accountability. “We must build a society where justice prevails over violence and ignorance,” the statement concluded.
