Cynthia Osam, a young woman from Iyamoyong, in Obubra Local Government Area, Cross River State has undergone two life-saving surgeries.
Cynthia was diagnosed with acute appendicitis and degenerated fibroids, both requiring urgent surgery.
Dr. Ekon Francis who performed the procedures at General Hospital, Obubra, said, “The surgeries were successful.”.
He credited the Cross River State Health Insurance Scheme for ensuring timely medical intervention.
Excited Cynthia’s mother, Mrs. Cecelia Osam, thanked the Estate Governor Bassey Otu for improving healthcare access.
She also praised the State Health Commissioner Oden Ewa for enrolling her daughter in the scheme, calling it a lifesaver. Without it, she said, her family would have struggled to afford the treatment.
Reacting to the development, Chief Godwin Iyala, Director General of the Cross River State Health Insurance Agency, welcomed the news. He urged well-off individuals to support healthcare for the poor and vulnerable.
Chief Iyala expressed hope that more people would embrace health insurance, leading to more success stories like Cynthia’s.
