Nollywood actress Monalisa Chinda-Coker has expressed her concerns about the under-representation of Nigerian women in the art world, describing it as “unfortunate and disheartening.”
Lisa, as she’s fondly called by her colleagues and fans, lamented the lack of representation of Nigerian women in the art world, particularly in museums and galleries. The actress lamented that despite the presence of many female artists, they are not adequately represented in terms of equity and dividends. She therefore advocated increased awareness about the issue to bring about change.
In a WhatsApp chat with our reporter, the mother of one suggested organizing art exhibitions and workshops for female artists across the country to promote their work and provide opportunities for growth. “I don’t know how this is going to turn out in the future for women in the arts. But let’s see how the record will drop going forward,” the actress echoed.
