In what appears to be the initial step toward initiating impeachment proceedings against the Governor of Rivers State, the Rivers State House of Assembly has taken formal action to investigate allegations of misconduct against Governor Simi Fubara and his deputy, Ngozi Odu.
While no official statement has been issued regarding the governor’s removal from office, the state assembly has formally communicated with the governor, citing grounds of alleged official misconduct as the basis for their inquiry.
This development follows closely on the heels of remarks made by the former Governor of Rivers State and current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, who, less than 48 hours prior, publicly suggested that the impeachment of Governor Fubara could be justified.
